History:
The News Source (TNS) started in March 2001 with news, coloring, and weather. In July 2001 we stopped weather, but introduced several other sections including "Ask Jenna", "Tall Tale Time", "Don't Judge a Book by its Cover" (a review column), "Sports" and "Activities". Later, "Web News" was started to inform people of our new web pages.
In 2007 we did a major overhaul to our website and newsletter. Our new site features easier navigation, a more complete computer help section, no ads, and more! The newsletter has new columnists and topics. Check out our newest edition on our archive page.
The News Source has been made on Ubuntu Linux with Scribus and OpenOffice.org since our August 2007 edition.
Events:
In the past we have used money raised by selling Snow Cups (Snow Cups are snow cones in a cup) to go on small trips. Since we are so close to a McDonald's, we try make it fun and special by riding over there on our bikes for a meal or a quick treat. We also have rode bikes on the Rotary River Walk between YMCA and Heritage Park in the local area. We hope to one day continue this tradition and some similar form of fund raising in the near future.
The News Source staff also has had two plays. Our first play called "Live from Bethlehem" was about the birth of Christ presented in a "news coverage" format. The second play, conducted during the summer, was called "The Pirate's Map."
The story line includes two boys who get hold of an old map from some girls. The map supposedly leads to wonderful buried treasure. The boys follow the map in curiosity and begin to dig at the location the map has led them. As they dig they uncover a large treasure chest full of bibles.
Afterwards the girls jump out from a hiding spot with astonished looks, surprised at what the boys have found. In awe of what the boys uncover, the girls admit to the them that they had only made the map out of fun. They all go to church the next Sunday keeping in mind what they had found a few days before.
